We went by to visit her a couple times a month and she was always playing the piano or socializing with the other people. Eventually my parents talked her into moving into an old age home (they paid for it) and it totally transformed her life. As a kid I always felt sorry for her that she was alone. She smoked like a chimney and mostly sat in the room (which only had one window in the kitchen) and listened to the radio.
LITTLE SLICE OF SEA FREE
My parents let her live there rent free for years. Her name was Irene and she was well into her 80's or older. One thing I forgot to mention is that when my parents bought the place it came with an old lady who lived in the very back unit and refused to move.
LITTLE SLICE OF SEA TV
I used to watch old game shows on a little black and white TV they kept upstairs above the general store in a small room that was always hotter than Hades because it was uninsulated.īut downstairs they had an old fashioned glass candy counter and I always got to choose a few pieces of candy to take upstairs with me. I spent so many hours there, alone, while my parents worked on it. This place was a huge part of childhood and I have mixed feelings about it. They closed it down in the mid 1970's and it sat unused for the next 20+ years except for the old hamburger stand that got walled in and made into a Thai food restaurant called the "Thai Spoon". There was also small deli in the back that apparently was selling more than just sandwiches and got shut down by the police. It thrived for several years until they got a few bad tenants and they got tired of hassling with them to pay the rent and keep the place clean. They also rented it out as locations for movies, TV shows and once for a Playboy photoshoot. The front store on the left was my parents antique store and the old gas station was turned into a hamburger stand called "Billy Goodins". They rented out each renovated motel room to small store owners who sold everything from hand made crafts to old books to small bakery items. My dad networked with all the prop people he knew until he got together enough wood and facade materials to turn the entire thing into an old western town. It was a small motel probably from the 1940's that had about 8 units each with a double car garage where you could park your car and on the right front corner there was a gas station. The only drawback I can imagine is that it ends in a very unexpected moment (there is no buildup indicating that you are nearing the end, like one usually gets in games). On Wednesday I mentioned my parents property on Ventura Blvd in Studio City called Knaggs Berry Towne. If there is one advice I can give, it's one I actually picked up while reading another review: be generous with the use of "S" (entering pathways) as every time I came up to a wall, it was due to some side turn I missed which contained the missing switch or item. The game is very relaxing and as such has a lot of replay value, so I'm sure I'll play it again. So it's good to play this game through without too many pauses in between the sessions (it took me 4 sessions over the span of one week, totaling to 7~8h). Once in a while they will span multiple locations (even across completely different "worlds"). The riddles aren't too hard, but require a good eye for detail and for connecting similar entities from all over the explored area. So basically it's a mix of point-and-click with a 2D-ish platform game.

You can also use a form of telekinesis which allows you to influence your environment remotely (using the mouse pointer). You can move, jump and enter pathways perpendicular to the movement axis.

As for the plot? You are a seaweed creature in a kind of a HEV suit (hazardous for the seaweed) trying to get back home. You can hear it all on You-Tube on their channel. This is further enhanced by the wonderfully peaceful soundtrack, specially created for this game by Thumpmonks (who also created sounds for the Sub-Machine).

Every location is a mini-piece of art, most could serve as fascinating images in on their own. First and foremost it's entirely hand-drawn by it's sole creator, so there is nothing that feels "generic" in this game.
